Red Fort

๐Ÿ“ New Delhi , Delhi , India

The massive Red Fort (Lal Qila) complex is dominated by 33m high red sandstone walls and situated above the Old city of Delhi. Building of the walls started in 1638 by Emperor Shah Jahan to protect the city from invaders. The walls have since then served to keep out the disorder and uproar of the city. One of the main gates to the city, Lahore Gate, is an important symbolic and emotional point to the people of the modern Indian nation and is thronged on Independence Day. Chatta Chowk’s vaulted arcade, a bazaar selling items of little or no value to the tourist, opens into the fort compound. Within the compound, there is a bounty of buildings which include the Pearl Mosque, the Drum house, the Palace of Colors, and the Halls of Audiences.
